Wii aren’t happy
December 28th, 2007
Posted By: Steve Badowski

After feeling extremely slighted after this holiday season, when our bosses, Mike and Bobby, ignored our countless “Be Santa” letters to Santa, and handwritten letters written on company stationary asking for Nintendo Wii and flat screen TV’s for the office; Kyle and I went ahead and did something about it.

Merry Christmas! The Carrot Crew has a lot to be thankful for this year and we owe everything to our employees, clients, & family. This year our Facebook Application “BE SANTA” help spread Christmas Joy around the world which was truly amazing. Not only did we show the power of the internet but made many people happy. That has made this year a very special Carrot Christmas, plus we replaced the traditional Christmas Cookies with Carrots for Santa.

From everyone at the Carrot Crew we wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Carrot Closed for the Afternoon
December 13th, 2007
Posted By: Christian Shaboo

Well, it appears that the local weathermen were wrong again. The New Haven area, currently the home of Carrot Creative’s main office, was not anticipating any snowfall as initial reports stated 0-3 inches of precipitation. However, mounds of white goodness are already piling up and we are expected to get 6-9 inches by late afternoon. Thus, we have closed the Carrot offices this afternoon and will be working from home. If you need to get ahold of us, you can best reach us via e-mail. Have a safe trip home everyone.

O List
Even with the new year still weeks away, 2008 is already looking O-mazing for the HUE HD Webcam and Carrot Creative. The HUE HD Webcam, a Clique Communications product, has made the front page of O, The Oprah Magazine’s, O List for the January 2008 edition. HUE continunes to receive praise for its compatibility with Macs and PCs alike, its high-quality sight and sound and its flexibility, but as stated in the O List, “The real draw is that it’s as cute as a button.” (more…)

Facebook for Professionals

Community Forum

Today I will be part of a speaking panel at Web Community Forum. The panel will comprised of Teresa Valdez Klein and Dave McClure, and we will be discussing Facebook as a professional tool. Notes will be provided later on in the week, as it will be a collaborative effort of the entire Carrot Crew to summarize the events of this week’s forum for all of you.

Facebook for Professionals: A Session for the Community Building in the Age of Facebook Conference.
December 5, 2007 • 11:30 am
Presented by Mike Germano, Dave McClure, Teresa Valdez Klein

Now that Facebook has announced that it plans to include granular permissioning for different types of friends, the question on everyone’s minds is, “What does this mean for Linkedin?”

Linkedin has long been the social network of choice for professionals. But its dominance in this space has been under attack as more professionals spend their time networking on Facebook. This growth has been limited somewhat by the fact that Facebook does not currently have a system for designating how well a “friend” is known to you, or by what means.

This limitation has meant that some content — photos of a Saturday evening spent singing semi-inebriated karoke, for example — might be better suited to an e-mail among friends than a dedicated Facebook album. The restoration of the personal-professional barrier on Facebook is a boon to twenty-somethings like me — who have been on the site since college.

With this type of content permissioning firmly in place, all kinds of people are free to start using Facebook as a professional network as well as a place for friends to congregate. This imbues a number of old questions with new importance:

  • How do I manage my professional relationships on Facebook?
  • What is the proper etiquette for a friend request?
  • What are the special concerns for professional women on Facebook?
  • How will these granular permissions play out?
  • What features would make Facebook an even better place for professionals to network in the future?

We’ll be asking and discussing these questions and more in a session at the upcoming Web Community Forum conference in a session entitled “Facebook for Professionals.”

What do you guys think? How are you using the site to network professionally? Personally? Where does the divide create conflict?

BE SANTA

Be Santa is proving to be the shining star for the holiday season on Facebook. In just two weeks, Be Santa has enlisted active users all over the world, who have sent tens of thousands of virtual and real gifts for the holiday season. Be Santa is already being heralded as one of the hottest new applications, and certainly the best of holiday applications produced for Facebook. Check out these three blogs for all the blog buzz on Be Santa: FaceReviews, AllFacebook and WhatApps.

We here at Carrot Creative would like to give a warm holiday thank-you to Rodney Rumford and Nick O’Neill for continuing to offer positive evaluations of our applications and continue to offer support for the innovative ideas in Social Media that Carrot Creative utilizes.
