I will be attending the Numenta HTM Workshop in Palo Alto, CA this June! The workshop explores Hierarchical Temporal Memory (HTM) and the Numenta Platform for Intelligent Computing (NuPIC). Not only will I be soaking up the newest developments on HTM and NuPIC, soaking up the summer Cali sun, but I have also been asked to discuss “Neuro Computation in the Cloud” during the Lightning Talks on June 24 at the workshop. This is a result of the 2nd place… Continue Reading
Carrot Engineering + Google Appengine
I attended the Google Appengine Hackathon yesterday and was quite impressed with appengine as a platform for developing web applications. Some of the benefits our engineering crew will appreciate are: python is much lovelier than php, the development environment is quite simple, and deployment is a breeze. Say goodbye to Apache. Benefits that clients will enjoy? Increased server reliability and easier scalability. If you’re interested in working on a bunch of projects built on appengine, twitter @kortina. We’re always looking… Continue Reading
Carrot and Onion: Vegetable Companies Unite!
@mikegermano and I visited the Onion offices today to speak with them about some pretty cool new stuff they’re working on. It’s always a pleasure speaking with people who just get it. After our meeting, we headed to a great lunch in Soho and enjoyed a little afternoon sunlight. (I’m sure Mike will be recording his thoughts on lunch via his newest social media outlet, yelp.) Anyway, we’re eagerly anticipating the release of some new stuff from the Onion and… Continue Reading
April NY Tech Meetup
Yesterday, I attended this month’s New York Tech Meetup at the IAC Building. As always, these events are a great place to meet the up-and-coming faces of the Web 2.0 world in NYC, as well as relate with other programmers, developers and professionals after a good day’s work. Below are the list of presenters from the Meetup, which I encourage everyone takes a look at as there are truly some great ideas brewing in the Northeast. Steve Rosenbaum—Magnify.net Oliver Hurst-Hiller—DonorsChoose.org… Continue Reading
Sxsw update
Just got out of the facebook developer garage here at sxsw. The conference has been pretty amazing so far, I’ve met a lot of great people, and heard a lot of great ideas. When I get back to Brooklyn I’ll post some links to some of the better talks I heard and some of the pictures I took. Tonight I’ll be at the tumblr rock band party, then who knows. Twitter @kortina if you’re out and want to meetup.
Carrot at SXSW
After work today, I’m leaving straight from the DUMBO office for Austin, TX. I’m super excited that Carrot is sending me down to represent at SXSW. I’ve wanted to go now for a number of years, but just haven’t made it yet for some reason. Anyway, I’ll be down there meeting new people, taking photos, and hopefully learning a lot. Let me know if you’re gonna be down there and want to meet up or if you have any suggestions… Continue Reading
Hello Everyone my name is Andrew.
When I was a senior at UPenn some of my friends informed me that people do other things than consulting, i-banking, and graduate school after college. As a philosophy undergrad, I had resigned myself to the last of these, but the entrepreneurship thing sounded much more exciting; I have always been very competitive and–ah–persistent.
