    What's in an app?

(FYI- Some of our favorites apps are listed at the end of this post… but they only appear if you read the whole thing ) This July will mark the one-year anniversary of Apple’s App Store opening for business. Applying the music store commission model to applications meant that developers (after school entrepreneurs to full-fledged software companies) can not only develop for cutting edge devices & technologies with support, but also find digital distribution at the source with freedom to… Continue Reading

There are so many people we'd like to thank…

I just wanted to say thank you on behalf of the entire @CarrotCreative, for the positive feedback & numerous features of carrotcreative.com. We really had a blast putting together our site, and it was a great way to test out some ideas and technologies, creatively. We’ve been featured on numerous CSS sites (css WOW, cssimport, CSSclip, CSS Remix , to name a few) for inspiration to others. We’ve also been cited as an example for designing cityscapes (Lee Munroe) and… Continue Reading

There it is again! Hello, HUE.

A project that wrapped up a little over a year ago is in the spotlight today! HUE HD Webcam is featured as today’s woot! item. From name, brand, promotion & marketing concepts to software UI, to the actual product design itself, we had a blast with the unique opportunity to design the complete kit. We have posted about our work with HUE HD Webcam in the past, and some of its press (TIME & O (Oprah) Magazine features). So if… Continue Reading

Thank you Marcus Eaton Trio & TR3

I just wanted to express my gratitude to Marcus Eaton Trio and Tim Reynolds / TR3 (and both of their crews/management) for their generosity and kindness. If you missed out on Saturday’s show at the Highline Ballroom in NYC, be sure to catch these guys when they’re back to NYC, likely in a couple of months. Not only are both bands tremendously talented, they are great folks to hangout with (a great perk of my job), and certainly great clients… Continue Reading

    Does street cred trickle down?

We’re gonna go ahead and say yes. The Brooklyn Paper recently reported that Spike Lee is making moves to the 6th floor of our awesome building in DUMBO. We are on the 3rd floor of 55 Washington St… so we basically have become cooler overnight. Our CEO- Robert Gaafar- is already projecting exponential growth in sales and awesomeness for the remainder of our fiscal year. Meanwhile, the rest of us are going to have to play it cool and hope… Continue Reading

(Occasionally) Weekly service & software appreciation day: Drop Box

The latest in a “must have” service, and very much like the internets themselves, I cannot believe I existed two days ago without this. Maybe we didn’t exist, maybe what we perceive as a lifetime was really some facade and misperception of reality controlled by advanced machines bent on human enslavement…. but I digress- that’s a post for another day. Dropbox: Though in invite-only beta at the moment (yes, Carrot is pretty l33t these days), the service is fully functional… Continue Reading

(Occasionally) Weekly service & software appreciation day: Jing

Somehow we have overlooked a blog post about this so far (I believe our twitter accounts have covered it, however). There are a few items that we use many, many times a day and find ourselves almost unable to live without them… this is one of them. JING: This amazing (let me repeat- Uh-Mazing) service is currently free. This is hardly a justice to it’s capability, but the short of Jing is this- you can very quickly and seamlessly screenshot… Continue Reading

    Birdz in Brooklyn

Bobby, Sean and I went down to the waterfront between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges today at lunch… beautiful weather, blue skies, killer birds… Yes, there were birds of prey about. Ok, they were chained to posts by the ankle, but still very much alive and awesome! A raptor exhibit-bus was near the park for an informational show about Hawks, Owls and even a Bald Eagle… there were a bunch of school children trying to crowd us, so we did… Continue Reading

    Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day from everyone at Carrot Creative. We plan to use this day as a reminder of how we are all responsible for contributing to better environmental practices and “greener” lifestyles, on a daily basis… every little bit helps, and we intend to continue looking for new ways to reduce our impact as both a company, and as individuals. On that note, we’d like to share a few of our favorite products and some of our daily green reads!… Continue Reading

    Type-battle 2008

Sean, Andrew and I each took passes at The Font Game. Andrew nailed 17 of 34 (not bad for a developer with side interest in type), I got 28 of 34 (good enough for their ‘wall of fame’ but I should probably be ashamed ) and Sean won our mini-challenge with a Carrot record of 30 of 34 (though, in all fairness, he DID get to go to TypeCon 2007… More results to come as the other Carrot guys take… Continue Reading
